encourage "green" trips
In France, our collaborators have received eco-conduct trainings, to help them in particular to adopt a more respectful and safer environmental conduct, allowing for up to 25% savings in fuel. In the same spirit, Orange Switzerland has defined a mobility plan in order to encourage its employees to opt for environmental modes of travel.


renewal of the Group's fleet
In France, 3,250 vehicles were renewed in 2008, bringing the average emission level of the fleet to 144 g CO2/km. Additionally, the Group's "clean vehicles" catalogue consists of electrical hybrid vehicles, equipped with the Stop and Start system, or even cars with a small engine such as the Smart diesel.


the development of "green" energies
Orange United Kingdom signed a new "green" energy contract with its main provider. Close to 80% of its electricity purchases consequently come from renewable sources. In addition to the solar sites already in place, Orange constructed a new wind powered relay antenna in France powered and a mobile station functioning entirely with solar energy along the East fast train line.


recycling initiatives in Jordan and Romania
The Jordanian Telecom signed an agreement with an industrial corporation, approved by the Jordan Environmental Ministry, in order to recycle the electrolytes of used batteries, assuring environmental compliance. In 2008, the used ink cartridge collection system, implemented by Orange Romania in its installations and sales points collected 2.6 tonnes of cartouches. They are then recycled by a local contractor.


Egypt: reuse of used computers
Mobinil launched a used computer collection campaign with its collaborators. Once collected, these computers were then refurbished and donated to "Friends of Children with cancer", a charitable organismn.


Orange United Kingdom reinforces the traceability of waste
Orange United Kingdom took on a project focused on the traceability of the different waste treatment channels. As part of this project, these channels were audited to make sure that they comply with the applicable regulations.

recycling of electronic waste
Orange Business Services has worked with its electrical and electronic equipment providers (EEE) to determine the best WEEE management channels and to create a collection system with its customers. In 2008, on a worldwide level, 67% of the uninstalled routers were collected and recycled.

reduce the consumption of paper linked to notices
Among other environmental actions, Orange Spain decided to reduce its consumption of paper. This objective is particularly achieved by reducing notices to a minimum and published only in Spanish, which reduced the consumption of paper linked to notices by 8% between 2007 and 2008.
