Today, 60% of the population of developed countries have access to Internet but very often less than 20% have access in developing countries. So that information and communication tools may be of benefit to the greatest number everywhere, we continuously strive to lift all exclusion factors.
connecting people
We constantly committe to increasing the coverage of our Internet networks and telephony services. Thus, so as to improve Internet access in isolated areas, we offer alternative solutions (satellite offers in France, WIMAX in Romania, 100% solar energy mobile stations in Africa) and we follow through with infrastructure investments, such as the laying of new underwater cables in order to improve the connectivity in African countries. For low income populations, particularly in developing countries, our local entities promotes specific offers with reduced rates. At the same time, we deploy original distribution solutions in the isolated regions: mobile shops in Egypt ("Mobinil on Wheels"), a mobile high speed caravan in Romania, an indirect sales shop in Madagascar (Botika)…
service for disabled and elderly persons
Orange has defined a "Conception for all" strategy , coordinated by the Group Accessibility Department steered by the Technocentre, in order to make our services and products accessible to all our customers, in particular the disabled and elderly persons. With this strategy, the Group has developed a suitable and adapted offer, “ Autonomy offers, to each person its solution ”, by integrating the accessibility in all our activities, to answer any type of disabilities (audition, vision, speech, motricity, prehension and cognition). Orange France has implemented a complete distribution network with trained sellers, a specific signage dedicated to accessibility, 194 labelled stores, a dedicated website, a free toll number (also available for hard of hearing and speaking people by internet in time communication on orange.fr, “autonomy” section). We are working on the deployment of this accessibility strategy on the Orange footprint in Europe and other countries.
To let everyone know and get useful information to choose an adapted solution to their needs, Orange has set up partnerships with the main associations of disabled people . It is also an opportunity to achieve the Orange commitment concerning the access to the communication for all and fight on a daily basis the digital divide.
