The Cité des télécoms unveils its three new exhibitions

Paris, February 06, 2009
Under the "Freeze-frame 2009" banner, the visual image in all its forms has pride of place in the new exhibitions at the Cité des telecoms, which run from 6 February to 30 December 2009.
  • "Beyond the image": an exhibition coming from Quebec, put on jointly by the Museum of Nature and Science, the science faculty of the University of Sherbrooke in cooperation with Hexagram, Research/Design Institute in Arts and Technologies.
  • "New technologies, the art of convergence"
  • "Broadband and fibre-optics, network and uses": two exhibitions conceived and put on by the Orange Cité des télécoms.

With digital imaging technology and developments in very high-speed broadband, researchers and industry professionals are now applying images to art, medicine and the environment, etc. The Cité des télécoms is hosting three exhibitions, a voyage to the centre of digital imaging.

Beyond the image
Digital imaging enables many applications, in areas as diverse as the arts, health, surveillance and the environment. This exhibition offers a kaleidoscope of digital creations, both educational and recreational.

New technologies, the art of convergence
The progress of new technologies enable communication services to be offered across all platforms (TV, mobile and PC), and thereby to stay connected anytime and anywhere.
The moving image is at the centre of all new uses, such as MMS messages, television, mobile or even webcam communication. This exhibition explores new uses related to digital convergence drawn from daily life scenarios.

Broadband and fibre-optics, network and uses
With very high-speed broadband, it will soon be possible to see high-definition television, listen to music, watch films, play online games and share photos or videos over online social networks, all at the same time and anywhere in the home. This exhibition is a close-up of the incredible capacity of light to transmit data at lightning speed.

About The Cité des télécoms
Since 1992, the aim of the Cité des télécoms has been to support public promotion of scientific and technical culture related to the telecommunications industry. To do that, the Cité des télécoms bases its exhibition centre on the history of telecommunications up to the present day and on various landmarks in the historical heritage of our company, including Radome.

The Cité des télécoms, an Orange enterprise foundation, is located in Pleumeur Bodou on the Côtes d’Armor in Brittany. Radome, this huge 50-metre dome, was inaugurated in 1962 and is classified as a historical monument. It has 20th-century heritage centre status and, at the time, enabled retransmission of the first live televised images between the United States and France, as well as retransmission of telephone conversations worldwide.
