the NGO Helen Keller International organises a campaign to distribute vitamin

the Orange Foundation
and Orange Guinea support this campaign
1.5 million children
in Guinea will benefit from this initiative
Within the framework of its programme to fight visual impairment and its role
of coordinating the Group`s corporate philanthropy worldwide, the Orange Foundation
working closely with Orange Guinea is supporting the campaign to distribute vitamin
A to 1.5 children in Guinea, lead by the Helen Keller International NGO. This
campaign will be carried out by 3,000 health workers and 3,000 volunteers on the
whole Guinean territory, from 13th – 17th June 2008, during the “National Week
of Children`s Health”.
As its first corporate philanthropy intiative, Orange Guinea will contribute
to raising the awareness of communities by sending text messages to all its customers
and by making its posting network available to Helen Keller International. Orange
Guinea will also provide the NGO with means of communication to feedback the results
of the campaign to different administrative areas. Orange Guinea employees will
participate in the distribution campaign in Conakry.
In Guinea, it is estimated that 57% of children under five suffer from vitamin
A deficiency which weakens their immune system and is the chief cause of childhood
blindness. Thus, a national campaign to distribute vitamin A is organised twice
a year. It is usually coupled with a de-worming and vaccination programme for women and children.
