Safer Internet Day has been organized in February each year since 2004 by Insafe, the network responsible for coordinating the 30 national awareness centers for the European Commission's Safer Internet Program.
Taking place in more than 60 countries, it aims to promote safer and more responsible use of the internet - fixed and mobile - among young people.
The 2011 event is focusing more specifically on "virtual lives" and how they tie in with our real lives, as effectively summed up by the slogan:
Internet, it's your life, not a game! All year round, Orange provides its customers with resources to protect children and teenagers against undesirable content which they could be exposed to through their use of new technologies: free tools, recommendations for use and solutions geared to young people's needs and practices. Naturally, these solutions cover the internet, mobile and TV.
actions across EuropeIn France, Orange is supporting this event, organized by
Tralalère, which came up with the concept for and oversees
Internet Sans Crainte, with numerous initiatives taking place throughout February.
In
Spain, Orange has joined forces with all of the country's operators to present the
Protege a la Infancia (Child Protection) initiative at the European Commission's Madrid headquarters: this is based on a button to report any abuse and can already be seen on their web portals and soon their mobile platforms. This button sends a report directly and anonymously to the supervisory body supported by the European Commission in Spain.
In Poland, the
Fundacja Orange, which also acts on behalf of the TP Group, is heading up the
Online Education with TP program, looking to increase the security of children on the internet. In addition, Orange is the main partner, for the sixth time running, for a major conference on this subject in Warsaw, backed by the country's ministry of national education.
In
Romania, Orange is also organizing several awareness raising events to mark Safer Internet Day.
