Starting from 2009, the Orange brand will become the Main Sponsor of Polish Football
Team, substituting TP brand after 6 years. This means that the national team will
play further World Cup 2010 elimination matches still supported by TP Group, but
with a different logo on their T-shirts.
During the classification matches in Portugal in February 2009, Polish Football
Team will play their first match with Orange logo on their T-shirts with Lithuania,
and the first elimination match under the Orange brand will be the match with
the Northern Ireland in March 2009.
The Orange brand is well known in the football environment, both in Poland and
abroad. More than 30 per cent of Poles mention Orange when asked about a brand
spontaneously associated with sponsoring football. Orange supported Polish Ekstraklasa
for more than 3 years so efficiently that 51 per cent of interviewees still mention
the brand when asked about the sponsor of Ekstraklasa, although the contract expired
in June 2008
The change of the brand supporting Polish footballers is also a logical consequence
of the activation by TP Group a television channel Orange Sport in August 2008.
This the most football-oriented Polish channel transmitting live Polish Ekstraklasa
matches as well as league matches of other European leagues.
Telekomunikacja Polska has been the main sponsor of the Polish Football Team
since 2002. The company supported footballers during the elimination matches of
the European and World Championship and the Wold Cup 2006 as well as Euro 2009.
In 2008, TP extended the sponsorship contract for another two years. TP Group
will be still supporting the national Football Team during elimination matches
for the World Cup in the Republic of South Africa, but under the Orange brand.
