Orange launches its Foundation in Moldova to strengthen support of projects to help people communicate better

26 November, 2009 - Yesterday, Orange has announced the official launch of the Orange Foundation in Moldova. Since its creation in 1987, the Orange Foundation lies at the heart of the Orange Group committment to help people communicate better, especially those who are isolated for health, economic or social reasons.
With the launch of this new Foundation, Orange investments in corporate philanthropy in Moldova will gain further strength, with actions focusing on 3 key areas: health & disability, education and culture.

Mireille Le Van, Secretary-General of the Orange Foundation said: “We are delighted to launch the Foundation in Moldova, reaffirming our commitment to investing in social projects. The Orange Foundation continues to expand its presence to help people communicate better, in particular those who need our help because of their sensory disability, lack of education or access to culture. I am delighted to welcome Moldova as the 10th country in the Orange Foundation family."

 Liudmila Climoc, CEO of Orange Moldova, said: “The launch of the Foundation is yet another proof of our deep commitment to investing in the development of Moldova and of our mission to make communication available to all. The Orange Foundation builds on our heritage of strong social investment in a variety projects supporting children in need, education for girls, and support of local culture.”

Jerome Poulain, president of Orange Foundation in Moldova, added: “The priorities of the Orange Foundation will be to promote schooling and education as well as to support people in need. We will work closely with organizations like the UN to strengthen our investments in social projects in Moldova and we will continue in our mission to help people live fuller live and communicate and interact better.”

The Orange Foundation coordinates all of the Group’s philanthropic activities worldwide, working in close collaboration with the network of foundations and Orange companies. Today, corporate philanthropy projects, proposed by international and local non-governmental organizations are supported in over 30 countries in Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa, where the Group operates.

In order to celebrate this new foundation, part of the exhibition organized by the Orange Foundation "A world to share” is presented in the Moldovan capital. These are photographs taken by Martine Franck in Moldova which are exposed. The Magnum Photos photographer went to boarding schools where she has photographed in their daily activities, children with hearing loss.

Moldava Orange Foundation  brings to 10 the number of foundations active in the France Telecom-Orange Group. After the launch of the Foundation in the Dominican Republic last November 17, Moldova joined the network of foundations, including France, Spain, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Poland and Slovakia .
