Social networks, their exponential growth and their social impact at the heart of the first Science, Research and Society Forum, organized by Le Monde and La Recherche on Saturday June 20, 2009 at the Collège de France.
A unique opportunity for the general public to exchange their views with researchers, analysts, sociologists, professors, political figures and others during an exceptional day of brainstorming, reviews and debates launched by the philosopher Michel Serres.
The internet and more specifically social networks will represent one of the nine subjects looked at during this forum focusing on the key issues for society, including energy, nutrition, education and robotics (10 am to 7 pm, free access on registration).
In this way, four recognized specialists in their fields, including Dominique Cardon, a sociologist within Orange Labs, will be sharing their views and answering questions from the public during the conference-debate on “
Social networks and new lifestyles” (June 20 at 4 pm): in a few years, social networks have become central to how the internet is used. Is their wide-scale use reviving former practices or creating new ones? Is this “virtual” sociability a beneficial effect or an illusion?
